Holy Thursday tomorrow. Is there a Holy Wednesday?
The Numbers for Today:
- Fasting Blood Glucose: 98 mg/dl
- Weight: 189ish.
- Exercise: 45 minute ride in some serious high humidity.
- Mood: 7.0. Could be worse.
- Breakfast: Oatmeal with craisins, morning fruit medley. Have at least t four servings of fruit there. Banana, grapefruit and strawberries.
- Lunch: A bit of this and that from the fridge. Amazing what we sometimes wind up with in there. Hey, it's all good.
- Dinner: BBQ tempeh sandwiches with coleslaw and one small Girl Scout shortbread cookie. I feel so decadent.
- Snacks: A few pretzels.
The good news is that the world is getting richer. The bad news to getting richer is that it's getting fatter and that's for both adults and children in many rapidly developing parts of the world, particularly China and India.
Countries that are getting richer are becoming more urban, do a lot of sitting type work and do less physical labor, and eat more cheaper and nutritionally dense foods. Just like in here. So maybe we are all the same under the skin. Fat.
Problems once pretty much unknown in the poorer parts of the world - diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, renal disease, and some forms of cancer related to obesity - are becoming common in both adults and children. It's also an expensive problem and serious drain on the health budgets, just like here.
I imagine there is also a rise of late night exercise and diet infomercials as well. Thigh Masters anyone? You can read more about it here and also here.
Why do I have this old Weird Al video in my head?
Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch
Marsh Supermarkets has figured out that as the world gets fatter and gets diabetes there is money to made from it all. In its little corner of our expanding world, the Indianapolis based supermarket chain, where up 9% of its customers could be diabetic. To do well by doing good, Marsh's has set up it's Eat Right Live Right With Diabetes program, complete with a good website. While there advice on diet and exercise, there is strong emphasis on diabetes medication, which bothers me, but whatever works, right? It is their program and their pharmacy. They are, after all, in it for the money and there is nothing wrong with that.
