Friday, Splurge Day.

Damn the Cracker Jacks. I had one little bag last night and wake up to a nasty blood glucose reading. And I was so good yesterday otherwise. Well, I was a firm 201 this morning. That's something.

The numbers:
  1. Blood Glucose: 167 mg/dl. Stupid Cracker Jacks. And the prize, a tattoo was stupid as well.
  2. Weight: 201 lbs. I am getting there. Slowly. There is 150 lbs.
  3. Exercise: 45 minutes on the bike. Feels good and I gotta work off the glucose.
  4. Mood: Disappointed. Still not heading at where I need to be.
Menu for today:
  1. Breakfast was oatmeal made with apple/cinnamon herbal tea, craisins and an orange.
  2. Lunch was a club sandwich with a small ramekin of cole slaw (too much mayo for my tastes; back to the beans next time) at the Mason Jar.
  3. Dinner: Something with lots of vegetables at Tony's.
  4. Snacks: None.
Today is Friday, the day the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen meet for lunch. Aubrey couldn't make it because of medical issues, so that left Bob and I. I had club sandwich, which I shouldn't have had, but it did taste good and was very filling. It's now almost 7pm and I am very hungry. Tonight we are heading of course for Tony's for our Tex-Mex fix.

Oh, well. One day of splurging can't hurt. Much. No more Cracker Jacks for a good while, that is for sure. On the bright side, just 51 lbs. more to go. Going to be a long summer.

I Am Battling Depression...I Guess

Not a bad morning. Weight is improving, blood glucose is a tad high, but in a steady and more or less in a safe range. It's a beautiful morning, sunny and cool.

The numbers:
  1. Blood Glucsose: 117 mg/dl. I would like it to be in the mid-90's. It has dipped there on occasion before.
  2. Weight: 202 lbs. I could make a case for 201, but 202 is safe.
  3. Exercise: 45+ minutes on the bike.
  4. Mood: Happy
Menu:
  1. Breakfast: Oatmeal infused with cinnamon/apple herb tea, craisins and a grapefruit
  2. Lunch: Last of the split peas sauce over whole wheat pasta
  3. Dinner: Not sure. Maybe going to an open house tonight that Mary has been invited to attended as a vendor. If we go, it will hors d'oeuvers and wine. If we don't go, pizza and Project Runway. I am hoping for pizza and Project Runway
  4. Snacks: Fat free baked potato chips and soy yogurt.
I think I have discovered why I gained weight for the last decade and a half: I was depressed. Sounds reasonable to me. Here I was blaming myself for little discipline and not making wise food choices. I am in a better mood, not counting business, and here I just thought is was due to my pants fitting better.

Finally, A Move Down

Stepped on the scale this morning and I weighed 202 lbs. I can't believe I am happy at 202 lbs, but I am. Really, more like 202 1/2, but I am going to think positive. I don't know what happened to the three pounds from yesterday, but I ain't complaining. Water weight, probably, but poundage gone is poundage gone.

The numbers:
  1. Blood Glucose: 123 ml/dl. Seems I can't get off this plateau.
  2. Weight: 202
  3. Exercise: 45 minutes on the trainer
  4. Mood: Pretty good.
Menu:
  1. Oatmeal infused with apple/cinnamon herbal tea, craisins and a banana.
  2. Lunch: Split peas/bean sauce on whole wheat pasta.
  3. Dinner: Some sort of leftover
  4. Snacks: Soy yogurt. I seem to respond better to it than milk yogurt.
Great article on Jack Lalanne: He's still an animal. It talks mostly about his career as an exercise guru, but I think it is good to note that he follows a vegetarian diet, mostly. I think I read that he does eat some salmon for the omega-3 benefits. This was written back in the early 90's and he was 81 at the time. Now he's well into his 90's, still fit and pushing his juicier. I like his line I heard him say: When I die, I ruin my whole act. That's pretty much true for all of his. The guy is an inspiration and he's been right all along about diet and exercise.

I Am Stuck

Everything right now stays pretty much the same. I did indulge a bit on Easter. A high fat, delicious and filling breakfast at a place called El Tiempo after church. A small pecan piece of pecan pie for dessert. A Mary and Dave Top Shelf Margarita as an Easter cocktail.

The number for today:
  1. Blood Glucose: 130 mg/dl. It has consistently been in the 100 teens. Must have been the margarita and the pie. Highly fattening breakfasts at a good Mexican restaurant doesn't help either.
  2. Weight: 205 lbs. Yawn. Same Really stuck.
  3. Exercise. This morning 40+ minutes on the bike. Lots of gardening, week pulling specifically in the all weekend.
  4. Mood. Meh.
Menu for today:
  1. Breakfast. Herbal tea infused oatmeal with craisins and a banana.
  2. Lunch: Leftover hamburger from Saturday
  3. Dinner: Leftover roast with carrots and potatoes for dinner.
  4. Snacks: Soy yogurt.
